A smoke exhaust at the top of the mud front wall. This was set above the doorHere you can see a vent for the smoke. This was set above the door of the cliff dwellings.

The dry side of the cliffsHere on the sunnier side of the canyon the weather becomes drier and warmer. This affects the plants that grow and the animals that live here.

At this altitude you're not going to get the hot extremes you'd find further to the south, but you get some very cold weather in the winter.

across the canyon you can see dwelling lining the walls up and down the canyonAs you look up the canyon you can see there were many other dwellings at about the same level.
An observation path at the top of the canyonThere's a second, very easy trail along the canyon wall with a couple of observation points where you can safely lean out over the canyon and get a bird's eye view of the cliff dwellings.
There's an easy trail that winds its way along the canyon ridge. On the way back you can take another path to the parking lot that includes this pithouse as one of its surprises.
