A viewing platform outside the visitors centerHere's the outside viewing platform I mentioned that is sister to an inside one. There are wonderful views of the canyon and many of the cliffside dwellings from here.
an elevation sign. This elevation is 6,690 feetA warning here in bright red numbers. At 6,690 feet ( 2039m) the air is thin and dry. Be prepared if you're going to take the hike. Tkae some water and use the benches on the way. Allow three hours for the full hike. Or bring some active children to drag you back up.
An interpretive side explaining the banana yucca and its impact on everyday life. a banana yuccaThere are two climates zones in the canyon, a shady and sunny side. Each area has its own group of plants and wildlife. These interpretive signs do a good job of explaining the area and how these affected the lives of the Indians that lived here.
A view across the canyon and down to the seasonal streamJust a view down the canyon. Waaaaaaayyyyyy down there is where the Indians would have to go to fetch water to bring back up.
